This program will appeal to people with demonstrated leadership or technical experience from other industries who are looking to change, grow, or restart their careers.
You will come into Aurizon on an accelerated development program that provides opportunities across a number of roles and teams. Along with on-the-job experience you will participate in structured learning and development programs to build a strong foundation for a successful career.
Coming out of the program you will transition into a leadership position or technical specialty within the company.
Graduate Program
Aurizon has been voted by its Graduates as one of the top 75 employers to work for in Australia.

As a member of our program you will have rotation opportunities across the company, giving you the chance to learn within a range of jobs, and experience different work environments. The program is open to all graduates regardless of when you have graduated.

Railway Technical Foundations program
Building railway technical skills is key to our current and future success. This program connects key leaders in the organisation to understand technical aspects of how a railway operates and how we work together to create value.
Mentoring
Be matched with leaders whose experience and knowledge is invaluable to your professional development and career opportunities.
Buddy program
Connect with others that have experienced the program before. A chance to socialise and ask questions from peers to give you insight and fast track your learning.
Engineering
The graduate roles in Engineering may be in one of more of the following streams:
Civil - As a civil engineer, you will have the opportunity to use your professional skills across a variety of asset types including rail and road formation, a range of structure classes, and railway track. You will be involved in strategic planning, design, construction, and maintenance phases of the asset lifecycle.
Mechanical - As a mechanical engineer you will be responsible for: design, modification, testing, maintenance, safety and reliability of our rollingstock fleet and specialist plant equipment. You will gain experience in project management, monitoring fleet performance, fault identification, and reliability improvement.
Electrical - As an electrical engineer you will be working with a wide range of electrical, electronic and software systems including locomotive traction and control systems, HV traction power supply and distribution, telecommunications, railway signalling and operational systems, and SCADA systems.
Commercial
Graduates within Aurizon's Commercial teams are responsible for our financial corporate advisory and planning and reporting services.
Our financial corporate advisory areas provide specialist services relating to tax, treasury, investor relations, capital excellence and mergers and acquisitions.
Our planning and reporting services area is focused on managing an integrated business framework to maximise shareholder returns, plan for resource allocation and performance analysis.
Corporate
The graduate roles in Corporate may be in one or more of the following streams:
Human resources - responsible for partnering with leaders to implement solutions and drive a high-performance culture.
Corporate affairs - responsible for proving five key services including brand and sponsorship, community engagement, stakeholder relations, external and organisation communications.
Safety, Health and Environment - responsible for implementing and monitoring the Aurizon Safety action plans and initiatives, developing risk management skills and leading risk assessments, conducting incident investigations through trend analysis, developing initiatives to prevent re-occurrence and environmental management practices, systems and audit.
Who am I?
Mitch Lees
Mitch is our District Civil Engineer for the northern region. Mitch joined Aurizon as a student engineer 11 years ago and successfully completed the Aurizon graduate program.
While at Aurizon, Mitch has enjoyed the diversity of roles, growth opportunities offered to him as well as the mentoring and coaching.

Catherine Whipps
Catherine joined Aurizon’s graduate program in 2012 as a Business Analyst. Over the years she has made the most of the development opportunities offered to her and now works as a Deployment Leader, leading a diverse team in our deployment centre.
"Aurizon has been very committed to developing my career not only in the grad program, but once I moved into a leadership position they have continued to develop me and are always looking at what I can do to improve myself," said Catherine.
