About the role:

Aurizon is experiencing growth and we're excited to announce a newly created position for a Senior Engineer within our rollingstock engineering team. Based at Dry Creek, this role will support all Bulk Central operations spanning from Adelaide to Darwin. This encompasses oversight of 113 active locomotives, over 2,200 active wagons, and various maintenance and support facilities, terminals, and other operational assets.

In this role, you will be pivotal in transforming maintenance practices and leading innovative projects that will shape the rail industry’s future. We are also open to considering junior engineers who are eager to gain valuable exposure and experience in an ASX-listed company.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Technical Leadership: Organize and plan the technical aspects of highly complex mechanical engineering projects, including the design and preparation of user requirement specifications, material and component specifications, and ensuring safety in design for new and altered works.
  • Innovation and Strategy: Develop and coordinate technical aspects and strategies for integrating new technology and techniques into mechanical engineering systems and networks.
  • Design and Audit: Oversee the design, checking, and auditing of highly complex mechanical engineering systems submitted by the design team and external providers.
  • Documentation and Procedures: Prepare and manage the associated documentation, including user requirements, system requirements, installation procedures, verification and validation processes, testing and commissioning, asset handover, type approval, and maintenance procedures for mechanical engineering systems.

About You:

We are seeking an experienced professional with a background in rollingstock or heavy industry.

  • Qualifications: An engineering degree is essential, with a preference for a mechanical engineering background.
  • Expertise: Ability to provide expert engineering and technical advice, alongside leadership in developing and maintaining mechanical engineering standards and specifications.
  • Problem-Solving: A pragmatic approach to solving complex problems, generating new ideas, and challenging the status quo.
  • Teamwork and Innovation: A collaborative team player who is keen to work with their team to create innovative solutions.
  • Personality: A sense of humour and the ability to enjoy the work while achieving serious results are highly valued.
