About the role:
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated financial reporting manager to join our dynamic team for a fixed term of 18 months in a full-time capacity. The successful candidate will lead the team responsible for financial reporting and tax and will drive implementation of the adoption of Australian Sustainability Reporting Standards at Aurizon.
Key responsibilities and critical deliverables include:
- Lead the team responsible for technical accounting and oversee the coordination and completion of external financial audits and reviews, including preparing and presenting papers to Executive Management, the Board and the Audit, Governance and Risk Management Committee as required.
- Manage the development and implementation of financial accounting policies, including the integration of Australian Sustainability Reporting Standards into financial reporting.
- Lead the group accounting team who oversee the completion of month-end processes including general accounting reports, reconciliation processes, treasury accounting, and maintain the integrity of the fixed asset register.
- Work with the business and external stakeholders to oversee the preparation of complex and specialised accounting entries, including accounting for acquisitions and divestments, equity transactions, hedge accounting, and share-based payments.
- Manage the tax function and oversee the management of the Group’s tax risk, including compliance with the Group tax policy and tax controls testing plan.
About you:
- Tertiary qualification in a finance related discipline or a masters of tax
- Certified Practicing Accountant or Chartered Accountant
- At least 7 years’ experience in either a professional services firm or a large corporate, specialising in technical accounting or tax compliance and advisory
- Leadership skills that can drive improvement and have a positive impact on team morale.
- Strong stakeholder management skills and an ability to influence.
- High level of analytical skill and attention to detail.
- Ability to lead interfaces between team members and other parts of the enterprise.
- An understanding of various taxes, including income tax, fringe benefits tax, duties, GST and other tax legislation as applicable to large corporate entities.
- Strong presentation and communication skills.
