About the Role

Aurizon is seeking a highly motivated Maintenance Manager to oversee day-to-day maintenance operations for our Bulk Central Business in South Australia and the Northern Territory. In this critical leadership role, you will ensure the safe, reliable, and cost-effective maintenance of rail, terminal and port assets and equipment, directly contributing to the success and growth of Aurizon’s operations.

As a key member of our senior leadership team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping strategic maintenance initiatives, aligning operational processes with business objectives, and fostering a safety-focused and high-performance culture across our maintenance teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing workforce, fostering a strong safety and performance culture.
  • Oversee maintenance programmes, ensuring reliability of all rail, terminal and port assets and equipment is maintained and improved.
  • Guide and support experienced maintenance leaders to achieve optimal operational outcomes.
  • Champion customer service excellence, aligned with Aurizon’s values.
  • Develop and execute maintenance strategies, including major renewals and overhaul schedules.
  • Manage operating budgets, optimising resource allocation for cost-effectiveness.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives and foster collaboration across teams and regions.
  • Proactively identify and mitigate operational risks while ensuring flexibility for future opportunities.
  • Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to align short, medium, and long-term maintenance strategies with business goals.

About You

We’re looking for a strong, proactive leader with a passion for driving operational excellence in maintenance. You will bring a combination of hands-on leadership, strategic thinking, and a focus on continuous improvement to the role.

Key qualifications and experience:

  • Proven frontline leadership experience in an industrial or safety-critical environment.
  • A proactive, problem-solving mindset with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Trade and/or tertiary qualifications in engineering (highly preferred).
  • Extensive experience managing large-scale maintenance operations.
  • Strong influencing and negotiation skills across diverse workgroups.
  • Solid business acumen, strategic planning, and analytical capabilities.
  • Ability to build strong relationships and collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
