Andrew Harding, Managing Director & CEO said Aurizon is also offering additional funding to charities providing support in regional and rural communities currently affected by the drought crisis.

“It’s our way of supporting the impacted farming communities in Queensland and New South Wales where our trains travel and many of our employees live and work.

“Families and businesses are experiencing some of the toughest conditions in a very long time, and through these additional cash grants, we hope charities can continue their very important work of providing much needed assistance in local communities,” said Mr Harding.

Eligible charities and not-for-profit groups have until the end of October to apply for funding for projects that will contribute to Community Safety, Health and Wellbeing, Education or the Environment.

“Our Community Giving Fund has been giving back since 2011, supporting numerous very worthwhile projects in the communities where we operate.

“This funding all goes towards local community projects, and we look forward to continuing our support in this round, and in particular, helping our communities impacted by the drought.”

From the round of grants announced in July this year, Aurizon is supporting 22 charities across the regions where it operates – Central Queensland, Hunter Valley, North Queensland, South East Queensland and Western Australia – to make their communities a better place to live.

Applications for the latest round of the Community Giving Fund (including the additional funding for drought relief projects) are open until 5.00pm AEDST Friday 26 October 2018.
