Aurizon to provide cash grants up to $20,000 for community projects
Latest round of Community Giving Fund opens
Aurizon, Australia’s largest rail freight operator today announced the opening of the second round of its 2021 Community Giving Fund.
All community groups and charities that are undertaking projects contributing to Community Safety, Health & Wellbeing, Education or the Environment, and located across the Company’s operations in Queensland, New South Wales and Western Australia are invited to apply for cash grants of up to $20,000.
Andrew Harding, Managing Director & CEO said the Community Giving Fund is a key initiative in Aurizon giving back to the communities in which it operates.
“With over 80% of our staff living in regional areas, it is so important that we contribute to the communities in which our employees live and work. It is through our Community Giving Fund that we can give back by providing these cash grants to eligible community organisations,” Mr Harding said.
“Over the past 10 years, we have helped a diverse range of organisations across Australia deliver projects that make our local communities better places to live in. In our first round for 2021, Aurizon supported 23 community organisations, bringing the total number of recipients over the past decade to more than 450.
“A great example of what this funding can do is the grant we recently provided to Midwest Yellow Ribbon for Life. They now have the funds to provide a Mental Health First Aid two-day course to support mental wellness through education within the Midwest community in Geraldton.
“The course is aimed at educating community members in how to recognize and assist someone who is experiencing a mental health problem and knowledge to link that person in with the appropriate professional help.
“In the current COVID-19 climate, with many people’s mental health being affected, we are pleased to have been able to provide support to this project,” said Mr Harding.
“If you are a charity or community group seeking financial support for projects where we operate, I encourage you to visit our website to find out more information.”
